One of my favorite things is Saturday Night Live. The ideas behind the show is something I have always respected and admired. As nerdy as it seems one of my favorite parts of the beloved TV series is the opening credits. I have done numerous projects of the credits thru the years. The bright colors and the unique typography has always caught my eye. Along with seeing the new cast mates I also look forward to seeing the new opening credits. This years was no different, it was even more of a big deal because this is the 40th season of the cult classic. For the last couple of years the Penegram has been the ones in charge of creating the credits, every year the credits have been amazing, this years was no exception. If you have not seen the opening credits click here and come back after you have watched this amazing video.
Since this is the 40th anniversary season it was a big deal to create a special design that showcases both the past seasons and the new upcoming season. When you think about it a lot has changed in the last 40 years for Saturday Night Live, and Penagram did a wonderful job of showing that. It was created by Emily Oberman and her team.
It is pretty obvious that Saturday Night Live is impacted by New York City, and this title sequence really shows just that. Much like the city Saturday Night Live has been reinventing itself.
Along with the new opening credits, the Penagram also recreated the identity for SNL. For the 40th season they wanted to show their love for the city and the popular TV series. For many the sequence does a great job of showcasing the city and the show. Here are some of the new identity examples.
